Shalimar was created in 1925 by Jacques Guerlain. It is one of the best-selling perfumes of all time. The perfume consists of citrus, lemon and bergamot, jasmine, can rose, opoponax, tonka bean, vanilla, iris, Peru balsam and grey amber. Shalimar is a tribute to the legendary love story of Emperor Shah Jahan and his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal as a tomb for his beloved wife, who had died in childbirth with their 14th child. Shalimar is named after 'The Gardens of Shalimar'. Shalimar was Mumtaz Mahal's favorite garden.
